In 1905, Friedrich Johann Wernli-Studer opened his bakery with money saved from his godfathe in Trimbach. In 2008, the family-run company HUG AG from Malters took over Wernli. Since that time, the two companies have together been guaranteeing Wernli’s high quality, as well as the use of all-natural raw materials insofar as possible, and are ensuring that Wernli remains the most well-known and beloved biscuit company in Switzerland.
Anna Hug (5th generation) and Marianne Wüthrich Gross run the company in a co-management model.
The recipe for the quality and good taste of our products is in the hands of the people who work with them. True to our motto: Sincere, entrepreneurial and conscientious.
Raw Ingredients
100% Swiss chocolate
Swiss chocolate is famous the world over. Only use chocolate produced in Switzerland that does not substitute other vegetable fats for cocoa butter, although this is currently allowed.
Eggs from free-range production
Bake exclusively using eggs from free-range production.
No artificial flavourings
Only use natural flavourings in our high-quality Wernli biscuits.
No colourings
In principle, no colourings are used in Wernli products except in the fruit in our Florentins, which has been prepared according to the same traditional recipe for decades.
Sustainable cocoa and hazelnuts
In order to promote the cultivation of sustainable cocoa and hazelnuts, Wernli use raw materials containing cocoa (chocolate, cocoa powder, etc.) and hazelnuts which has been grown according to Rainforest Alliance criteria.
